❓ Frequently asked questions
How is the shraddh tithi decided?
It is the Hindu tithi current at the moment of death — not the tithi at sunrise. That is why the time and place of death are needed along with the date.
On which Pitru Paksha day should the shraddh be done?
On the same tithi in Pitru Paksha, whether the death fell in Shukla or Krishna paksha. A death on Purnima → Purnima Shraddha; on Amavasya → Sarva Pitru Amavasya. Pitru Paksha shraddh is done from one year after the death. If the tithi day is missed, one shraddh can be done on Sarva Pitru Amavasya.
When is the annual shraddh (barsi)?
Every year on the same Hindu date — the same tithi of the same month and paksha. The calendar date changes every year. Shraddh is done in aparahna (the 4th fifth of the day), so the day whose aparahna holds more of the tithi is taken.
